Religious memory of migrants from the Black Earth Region to the Altai Territory in the 20th and 21st centuries

In this article, the author proposes to examine the phenomenon of religious memory using the example of qualitative interviews with peasants who are descendants of immigrants from the Chernozem (Black Earth) region to the Altai Territory. Specifically, the article focuses on the methods of preserving and transmitting religious memory, its forms, mechanisms, and transformations within the framework of the non-violent change of residence of peasants during the Stolypin agrarian reform and the new living conditions of peasants throughout the 20th century. The purpose of this article is to explore the religious memory of the Chernozem region's immigrant peasants and their descendants. In the analysis of interviews with respondents from the Altai Territory, the author highlights the similarities and differences in the religious thinking and behavior of peasants when they change their place of residence, and explores the transformations of religious practices and the mechanics of intergenerational transmission of religiosity. The relevance of the study is supported by the hypothesis that religious memory plays a significant role in preserving the group identity of the peasantry.
