The current distribution of the age starting business entrepreneurs

Introduction. In recent years, small businesses and individual entrepreneurs have played an important role in the vast majority of modern national economies. The need to develop entrepreneurship places the problem of studying age-related characteristics of new entrepreneurs on the agenda of urgent issues. Materials and methods. The study aims to evaluate indicators describing the cross sections of new entrepreneurs belonging to five age groups in the total population of the corresponding age groups in different countries. The determination of patterns and trends characterizing the distribution of startup entrepreneurs in different countries by age categories was carried out using mathematical models, which are functions of the density of the normal distribution. As the initial data, we used the results of surveys conducted in the process of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitoring for 2018 in 48 countries and for 2017 in 54 countries. Results. In the process of research, the prevailing average values of the levels of early entrepreneurial activity and the intervals of changes in these indicators for most countries were determined. The study showed that the largest share of new entrepreneurs in the total population belongs to the group of 25-44-year-old people. The proportion of startup entrepreneurs belonging to the group of 55-64-year-old people is significantly lower. The absence of structural changes in the average cross sections of new entrepreneurs in the total adult population for the period from 2017 to 2018 is proved. The study made it possible to identify the countries characterized by high and low values of indicators of early entrepreneurial activity in these age groups. The differentiation of levels of entrepreneurial activity by country is proved. A significant difference is shown in the distribution of the considered indicators according to Russian data and from the average values for other countries. Discussion and conclusions. The study contributes to an understanding of the patterns and trends of early entrepreneurial activity in various age categories. The results obtained can be used by government bodies to develop entrepreneurship development policies based on the age structure of the population in Russia and its regions. The obtained knowledge can be used in higher and secondary educational institutions, as well as in the advanced training of employees who are involved in the regulation of entrepreneurship.
