COMPARATIVE APPROACH IN THE BOOK OF TREVOR OSWALD LING "THE HISTORY OF THE RELIGION OF THE EAST AND WEST: INTRODUCTION AND INTERPRETATION"
Covering the period from the first known civilizations to the present day, Trevor Ling in his book "History of Religions of the East and West: the introduction and Interpretation" based on a comparative approach, considered the World's major religions: their movement, metamorphosis, their impact on society and polity, and also the reverse influence. Avoiding mysticism and religiosity, presented historical method enabled author to anticipate many of the modern discipline whose subject is religion, such as the geography of religion, political science, religion and economics of religion. Using enormous mythological material, the author distinguishes rare, but proven historical facts. Trevor Ling postulates that the focus of its consideration is not a phenomenon of human faith, but the emergence of the Euro-Asian traditions influenced by religion. His goal is to contribute religious discourse, and then by re-activation of eastern religious traditions reinforce spirituality of west world to which he belong.
