The role and importance of the institution of volunteering in improving the process of socialization of modern students
Active social work plays a key role in the formation of a civic position, patriotism and moral principles in young people. Volunteering, in particular, has significant social value for society and is an important tool in the socialization of the younger generation. It promotes the development of a sense of responsibility, involvement in social problems and the desire for positive change. Young people can gain valuable experience, develop teamwork and communication skills, and realise their role in building a more just and harmonious society by participating in social proyects and volunteering initiatives. The aim of the article is to study the role and importance of the institution of volunteering in improving the process of socialization of modern student youth. The empirical basis of the article is the results of sociological surveys of student youth of the city of Orel “Volunteering as a factor in the socialization of modern student youth” (mass survey) (2023) and “Volunteering as an institution of socialization of modern student youth” (expert survey) (2024). The results of the study showed that student youth perceive volunteer activities as a significant, useful action for society, which opens up new horizons in the process of self-development, through gaining new experience and knowledge. Volunteering is a responsible, socially significant matter that requires composure, certain skills, knowledge and character traits. These qualities influence the perception of traditional values by the subject, as they reflect the ability to persistently pursue a goal, hard work, self-control, discipline, the ability to manage a situation, etc. Today, strengthening traditional values is one of the main tasks of Russian society, and this goal can be achieved by involving young people in volunteer activities, as it is a direct reflection of all these guidelines. The study also identified factors that have a positive or negative impact on the involvement of young people in voluntary activities on a long-term basis. These factors are related to the areas of social policy and voluntary activities.
