Formation of technological competencies at a university in student assessments
In the conditions of actualisation of the problem of technological sovereignty of Russia, it is necessary for higher school to strengthen the technological side of the educational process. Universal and professional competencies that are formed in universities need to be filled with technological content. Accelerated technologization of various spheres of public and personal life poses new challenges for universities to prepare students for STEM professions that correspond to the latest achievements in the natural sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics fields. The article provides various interpretations of technological competencies found in domestic and foreign scientific literature. The main structural components of technological competencies are cognitive, activity-practical and personal value related. The results of an empirical research (survey) conducted in April-May period of 2023 at three universities of the city of Ivanovo: Ivanovo State University (IvSU), Ivanovo State Polytechnic University (ISPU) and Ivanovo State University of Chemistry and Technology (ISUCT) are being analyzed. The subjects of the survey involved 3rd and 4th year students of STEM bachelor’s degree programs: “Chemistry”, “Medical and Pharmaceutical Chemistry” (IvSU and ISUCT); “Ecology and Environmental Management” (ISPU); “Fundamental Computer Science and Information Technology” (IvSU); “Information Systems and Technologies” (ISUCT and ISPU); “Nanotechnology and Microsystem Engineering” (IvSU); “Nanoengineering” (ISPU); “Electronics and Nanoelectronics” (ISUCT). The study results revealed high assessments of the technical equipment of the educational process, the role of practices in professional development, the combination of theoretical and practical components of the educational process, and the professional characteristics of teachers. Among the technological personality traits formed during university studies, students highlighted communicational skills, entrepreneurship and analytical thinking. Differences were noted in student’s responses depending on the following variables: university, course of study, level of academic performance, gender, attitudes toward master's studies. A number of conclusions correlate with the results of research by foreign scientists.
