It shows the unique place and role of documents identification in the whole range of the procedures of their scientific analysis. The main shifts of the modern academic studies of new religious movements in focus on certain types of documents are identified. Different effects of the existing imbalance in the work with primary sources are described. The focal point of the article is the presentation and description of the original author's method of identification of the documents of new religious movements, which allows to overcome the arising methodological problems.</p></abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The article is devoted to the analysis of the main methodological problems encountered by scientists in the process of identification of the documents of new religious movements.
