The object of the study is the sphere of interethnic relations. The subject was the factors influencing the ethnocontact situation in the Republic of Dagestan. The author pays special attention to such factors as tolerance, identity and social distancing of ethnic groups. The purpose of our analysis is to study the ethnocontact situation in the Republic of Dagestan. The study was conducted using a mass survey method, the sample size was 3,000 respondents in 20 ethnocontact municipalities of the Republic of Dagestan. The level of social distancing for various ethnic groups was determined, the main types of identity of the inhabitants of the republic were identified, including the types of ethnic and all-Russian civic identity. There was also determined the level of tolerance. Based on the data obtained, a SWOT analysis was carried out and the factors provoking and hindering ethnic conflict were identified.</p></abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The article examines the socio-cultural factors of interethnic tension and their influence on the formation of interethnic relation on the example of the situation in the Republic of Dagestan.
