These technological solutions are being actively implemented in the practice of governance and management of Russian cities. However, the main attention is paid to the digital modernization of the urban economy, and not to socially significant problems which can be solved with the help of modern information and communication technologies. According to the author, one of such problems may be a low level of trust in local authorities. Based on the data of the All-Russian public opinion polls conducted by the Institute of Sociology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the article shows that over the past 8 years, trust in local self-government bodies has been at an extremely low level. The main reason for this is the alienation of municipal authorities from citizens. It is possible to overcome this alienation with the help of smart city technologies. On their basis, it is possible to provide openness and accessibility of local self-government bodies for citizens.</p>
<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The article discusses the possibility of restoring trust in local self-government with the help of smart city technologies.
